Editing

After the filming process was done, we began editing. We used The iMovie app on our phones because anybody with an iPhone can use it. Luckily everyone in our group had iPhones. So we were able to edit without a computer. This made the entire process less stressful because nothing extra was needed. And the fact that we used our phones to film made the process even easier. In iMovie you can trim the videos and put them in order. You can also add any filters necessary for color correction. It also comes with preset transitions for the video to create better pacing. Overall, using iMovie has been really effective. It’s very practical for our group members who are not experienced in editing.

Before placing our clips into iMovie, we needed to see which clips were usable and which needed to be trimmed. During this phase of editing, we discovered some issues, mostly with videos needing to be trimmed, but some clips needed to be re-done. Some of our group members started to panic a little, but we managed to get our heads together. We realized that we had enough time to go back to the beach and re-film the clips that needed to be better. after trimming the videos that could be used we were surprised with the results so far. This happened before we even put the audio from the music into the video. Macy and Adriana took a step outside to record a song using the voice memos app and then paste it into the music video. They recorded it by playing the music off of Macy’s phone and recording the audio with Adriana‘s phone. They were successful in their attempt. We put the music in and really felt it coming together.

When we are going through the clips that we had we noticed that there were a few videos that needed to be redone. This means that at least one of our group members would have to go back and record more footage to meet the time requirements. This may have caused some stress among our group but we managed to pull it together. We had faith in each other that we would get that music video done we have trust in one another. The actors will have to be wearing the same clothes as they were on the day of filming. They would need to be plenty of continuity re-filming the needed clips.

Filming by the sea

The location we picked for our music video was changing a lot, so everyone would be able to get there to film. We were aiming to get some shots with the sunrise and sunset to fit the type of vibe of our video. We also had a backup plan if that didn’t work, due to rain or other uncontrollable events. The song we chose can be interpreted in many ways due to the fact there are no words. We used the beach for our location. We didn’t have any issues with health and safety. We were able to make sure that the beach was safe for us to film. We Made sure we were not in the way of any beach goers and got their permission if we needed them in the video. we also checked in with the nearest lifeguard to make sure that we could film for our video. He said that we can film but to make sure that we checked in with him every few hours and to let him know when we are leaving.

For our props we used a car and some of the lifeguard stands. Of course, there is the chance these scenes can be cut out during the editing phase. We also used some beach towels
and sunglasses. Costumes for our music video were some "typical Floridian" beach wear. Shorts and a tank top or a bathing suit as we were going for a "beach vibe". Anything that is considered beach or beach like clothing. (What a surfer would wear).

The camera angles we used for the music video were: wide shot, pan, tilt, trunk shot, high angle shot, close ups as well as two people shots. For our male protagonist, we will be using our close friend Sam. We gave him a suffer beach boy look. We used no beauty make up on him. Sunblock was used as our version of makeup. We had a few props. we used towels, cars, the pier. we are mainly relying on the setting to tell our story. Our setting was at the Lauderdale by the sea beach. We were under the fishing pier for a large portion of the music video.

Filming A Day At the beach

So we anticipated taping the previous end of the week however our timetables didn't coordinate well so we didn't get the opportunity to film. We thought of the plan to do a dawn/dusk kind of vibe. We additionally felt that if that doesn't work out for reasons unknown that a stormy day would work as well. The tune we picked can be translated from multiple points of view thusly we can work it any way. Our favored area would be the sea shore and if not an open enormous field. Wellbeing and security would be generally considered for our vehicle shots. We additionally need to ensure that the sea shore is alright for use. We need to ensure we are not in the method for any sea shore goers and get their authorization on the off chance that we need them in the video.

The outfits that we will utilize are swimsuits and hoodies. We are wearing these not for their planned use however to give of a hip look. it is utilized for the proposed Florida tasteful. we will likewise be wearing shades, flip lemon and shoes. For the lighting of our music video, we will depend to a great extent on the sun. we additionally will have scenes in obscurity so we will utilize the white light from our telephones. So the principle wellspring of our lighting will characteristic light.

Our calendar for the music video would go as pursues. By the 21st of November we expected to choose our area which we have as of now. By the 25th of November we need to have most if not the entirety of our taping completed and recorded (pt.1). By the second of December the pt.2 of the last fruition procedure ought to be done. Recording would be done and clasps would be settled on and submitted in request to be altered. By the ninth of December our music video would be should have been completely finished with included sound and full altering and so forth. Ultimately, by the eleventh of December the last appraisal and examination of our music video would be finished and marry wrap up the undertaking.

Storyboard

The costumes that we will be using are bathing suits and hoodies. We are wearing these not for their intended use but to give of a hip look. it is used for the intended  Florida aesthetic. we will also be wearing sunglasses, flip flops and sandals. For the lighting of our music video, we will be relying largely on the sun. we also will have scenes in the dark so we will be using the white light from our phones. So the main source of our lighting will natural light.  For our cast (actors) we have the female protagonist which will be played by one of our members sister, (Kelly). She will be the one running around with the towel around her neck. The camera angles we will be using for the music video are going to be: wide shot,  pan, tilt, trunk shot, high angle shot, close ups and two people shots. for our male protagonist, we will be using our friend Sam. were giving g him a beach boy look. we will be using no beauty make up. sunblock will be used as our version of make up. we have a few props. we will be using towels, cars, the pier. we are mainly relying on the setting to tell our story. For our setting we will be at the Lauderdale by the sea beach. we will be under the fishing pier for a large portion of the music video. The editing of the video will be done by our most experienced member (Ben) on his iBUYPOWER Gaming Desktop Trace2 97K80 Intel Core i7 9th Gen 9700K (3.60 GHz) 32 GB DDR4 2 TB HDD 480 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Windows 10. The sounds of the video besides the music will have some ocean sounds in the beginning/ intro. The purpose of this to to lock in the tone of the music video. Because the music has no lyrics, the message the video gives off has to be based on the visual and instrumental, not the words.

Intro to new project music video

Today we start our music video project. We were Informed of the requirements for the video. It needs to be a minute and fifteen seconds long. The filming can not be done on campus. And the first thing we had to do was pick our song we want to use.

The song we chose is called Sunset Lover by Petit Biscuit. The song is not extremely popular, and neither is the artist, however developing a concept for the song was rather easy. The song doesn't have words, making it more instrumental, but has a type of beat that can be used to create a good story. Due to the fact that the song is so instrumental is has a strong beat that can portray a sad situation or something really happy. My team and I decided to go with a beachy concept of teens having fun during the summer, driving around, enjoying their time and watching the sunset go by.
This song would fall into a mix of EDM music but mostly Tropical house or vapor wave. To set up the feeling and theme we want for our music video we want to make sure that we accomplish six things.

For the vapor wave genre:
1st- The costumes, are very retro, modern and a somewhat neo-noir style.
2nd- The lighting, very bright positive colors like what would be in a sunset, also giving a mellow tone.
3rd - The Acting, is a calm non hyper-feeling.
4th- The Makeup, there is minimal makeup done in this genre. It doesn't focus on the looks of the actors.
5th- The props, skate boards, bikes, and other things that you would normal use and see as calming
6th- The scenery, is a beach-like late afternoon early night.

Final editing blog

Today we did the final editing for our commercial. The first step we did was import all of the clips we recorded onto the computer. Next we needed to import all of the clips onto fl pinnacle studios. The next step was to select which clips we wanted to use. There was a lot of trips we had to choose from. We were very relieved that we took so many shots. A lot of clips had minor issues in them either with the visual or the audio. We did have enough takes that were fine to use. We then took our selected perfect clips and edited them together.

We did this by dragging one clip onto the other. You need to make the end of the first clip touch the beginning of the second clip. By doing this you can play them with no gap between the clips. The next step we did what is make the clips shorter and go together more smoothly. We needed to remove the beginning of the clips before the scene starts. This removes anything we didn't want once the camera started rolling. Once we had the clips shortened and pasted together we had to work with the audio. Most of what we had recorded originally was what we were going to use. A few of the clips needed to be re recorded for the audio. We had to import the new audio we recorded today. It was the same process as importing the visual clips.

Under the visual clip line there is a audio clip line. We took the audio clip to and trimmed it down to match the visual. Then we inserted the audio into the audio line for the scene. Another issued we had to deal with was the narration/voiceover. We recorded voiceover for the slogan of the commercial. Doing this was rather easy all we needed to do was play the audio over a picture of the Gatorade bottle itself. Next we had to insert a picture of the Gatorade logo at the end. After we finished all the editing we watched the final product. We noticed the speed of the voiceover didn't match the clip it was on. We figured out how to speed up the audio without speeding up the visual.

Editing the commercial

After getting to class we were informed that pinnacle Studios was not working. We were instructed to still try and dump or clips onto the computer. After the entire group couldn't get it to work we asked the teacher over. She also was unable to dump the footage onto the computer. We then decided to go outside and finish our filming. We got a shot of the actress drinking the Gatorade. She then said " after my game I love to take a refreshing sip of gatorade". It was a Medium close up. We also got an audio shot of the Gatorade bottle being opened. We also recorded a shot of the ball going into the goal.

Due to the fact that we weren't able to edit today we might face issues farther down because of this. Without being able to edit we were not able to view the footage be recorded. If we dislike it or didn't have acceptable footage to use and we weren't aware we would need to re record it. because we couldn't view it we wouldn't know if we need to re-record it. we are unable to record it because the filming dates have ended. With taking the risk of having poor quality recordings it might increase amount of time we have to spend anything. Is this the project might take longer than expected. With all the requirements for this commercial taking longer than expected is not a good thing. Not having pinnacle studios is a big setback.

We would be able to get a lot accomplisheWe would be able to get a lot accomplished if we had pinnacle studios up and running. The first things we would be able to do it and all the clips together. We would do this by chopping up parts from the beginning and end of the recording wasThe first things we would be able to do it and all the clips together. We would do this by chopping off parts from the beginning and and that weren't part of the commercial. Next we would please send together in a smooth transition. We would try and remove any issues in the background. If we can't hear the audio due to the weather we will have to do a voiceover which would be edited and on top of the film. Another thing we would be able to do the pinnicle studios was up is adjust the coloring and lighting of the videos. We would also be able to blur out anything necessary. This would enhance the visual appeal  of the commercial. We are excited to get to add it when it does come back up.

Filming

The first step for filming our commercial was the story board. Once the storyboard was finished we had to bring in any props necessary to film. The props brought in were four bottles of blue Gatorade. We brought four bottles and kept all but one in the cooler as we filmed so when we took pictures of the bottle it had that condensation appeal. We had our actress come dressed in her soccer uniform. And our actor came wearing goalie attire. We used the iPhone 11 Pro to film instead of the cameras offered because we were familiar with how to use it. Once we got onto the field everyone got into their spot. I along with our other member was in charge of filming the action. The first shot we took was of Macy kicking the ball from behind over her head and running towards the goal. This shot was difficult because we had to try and keep our shadows out of the shot because the sun was casting a long shadow.

The second shot we had to film was Macy shooting the ball into the goal. Our goal keeper had to dive in and attempt to stop the ball. We had to take this shot multiple times for a couple of reasons. One reason was the accuracy of the ball, if it went to far left or right the goalie wouldn't be close enough to stop it. Another issue was if the goalies dive was too soon or too delayed. If the dive wasn't lined up with the shot then it would look staged versus realistic. The next shot we took was of The ball hitting the back of the net and coming really close to the camera. While doing the shot a few times to make it come as close to the camera as possible we tripped over the net under our feet and fell down. it made for a pretty funny blooper.

The last shot was of Macy walking behind the goal and drinking the Gatorade. This was a medium close-up shot. We needed to redo this a few times because of the weather. There was only two Gatorade bottles left after all of the shots were done. Once inside we uploaded the takes onto the computer. We started to go through and delete texts that were incomplete, incorrect, or just not to our liking. There were some shots of an entire scene that we didn't like and will need to be refilled. Based on the camera angle the call shot is to be redone. This time we will use a tripod and position the camera at the right level.

Storyboard

Today in class we edited and finished our story board. We filled six panels (scenes) with the events that will be going on during the commercial. Each box/scene on the storyboard is worth 5 seconds, since the commercial is 30s and there are 6 boxes. In the first scene a girl is running while dribbling  a soccer ball. The camera angle for this scene is a tracking shot, followed by the sound of a crowd cheering in the background. The second panel consists of a zoom that leads to a medium close-up shot. This will be angle facing the girl as she takes a deep breath. For the third panel it will be a wide shot with a high angle of the girl shooting her shot. For the fourth box it will cutaway to a wide shot from behind the net of a girl scoring a goal, and then at the end the same girl bending down to put her hands on her knees. With this motion, it transitions to the girl lifting the Gatorade bottle out of the Gatorade cooler, which is scene five (also called an action match). Then for the final scene it will be the girl opening the Gatorade bottle with the satisfying click and then taking a fat sip of it. All of these noises will be enhanced to fit/match the storyboard.

The finished product with be all of these scenes combined. This storyboard is going to help us organize our commercial. It will also show us the necessary materials we will need to make the commercial the best it can be. The storyboard will most likely end up being refined to make our commercial even more smooth and have the best angles and transitions, but for now this is how it looks.

Editing lesson Blog

Today we learned The beginning steps of how to edit films and clips. For the camera to charge the screen must be shut and turned off. To connect the camera to the tripod if you have to screw in the base to the removable plate. To make the camera stable you must tighten the screw underneath the tripod. To dump to dump your information from the SD card to the computer you first have to click on the DCIM button. This contains all of your SD card information. For example the date, time and size of a clip. If you cannot find a clip go back and click on "private" then "AVCHD" then "next" then "stream" this will show all information stored on the SD card. The next step is importing this is when you take the information on your computer and import it to the program that you use to edit. Once your editing software is open click edit in the top middle NOT transitions.

When you're ready to start editing the clips you hit "Import" and next you click "desktop" the "+" sigh and the word "media". This will allow you to select the imported files you want to edit. The ones that have a check next to them will be pulled down. This will allow you to select the imported files that you want to edit. When moving the checked files they go in one of three sections. AV track 1 which is for the tittle of the film. AV track 2 which is were you build the Visual portion of the film. Or AV track  3 which is where the audio of the film goes. The vertical red line is called the play bar. Can you place this somewhere on the track where you wish to cut the clip in two.

You can right click on a section of film to add effects. To take the audio out of a clip and make it silent you right click and press " detach audio". To start saving your progress you want to export it. You will export the program onto your desktop. Go into settings make it an mpeg4 NOT an mpeg3. An mpeg3 is for music only. Mpeg 4 is for video. You will render what you have to make sure it's saved. You can replay what you have saved to view how it looks. If you dislike it you can export it again to make it less choppy.

Planning

Today my group and I organized our commercial project. This helped us make a schedule to create a project that is well time-managed. It also made it so we had a better understanding on what our commercial was going to look like. For the plan we included: props, costumes, schedules, locations, and a backup plan for if something went wrong. Planning the commercial will help keep us on track and have less of a struggle putting the project together once we have all the components. It also makes sure we have all the components ready for our filming day. Without the plan, we could forget a prop, not manage time well, do the wrong thing on the wrong day, etc. The plan will insure we get everything done correctly and on time. This plan also will contribute greatly to our storyboard we have to eventually make when we are beginning our pre-filming process.
1) Props
-Soccer ball, cleats, Gatorade cooler, a bottle of Gatorade, a camera
2) Costumes
-Soccer jersey, soccer shorts, soccer socks, cleats, hair tie, pre wrap
3) Schedule
10/10 > Planning Period
10/14 > Storyboarding
10/22 > Filming
10/24 > Editing
4) Location
-Soccer field at FLHS
5) Back-up Plan
-In the event that it rains outside, we will still be doing the exact same thing because the rain would actually add to our dramatic effect + it would help with the “sweat” that is going to be on my face in the commercial when I’m running down the field with a soccer ball, so it wouldn’t change anything it actually might help
-If one of our star members or cameraman are absent the day of filming, we will replace them with the next best runner up and/or eliminate the use of them in the film, unless we are allowed to use another student from our class not in our group to take their spot

Research conventions and codes

As our commercial Macy Doyle, Ben Coleman, Andrew Stern and I have chosen to sell Gatorade. We chose gatorade because we feel it would be a very fun and somewhat east commercial to portray. From our research we’ve seen that many gatorade commercials are typically around 30 seconds long, just like any other commercial but being that they are a sports centered company most of the commercials they produced are centered around athletes. For example a track star or a soccer player on the field and then at the end pop up a picture of their logo. Or even something as simple as a celebrity endorsing the products making it likeable by consumers. There are also typically voiceovers in gatorade and most sports commercials in general. Many of these features although not completely original are factors we want to include in our gatorade commercials as they are very key features of sports commercials.

For our commercial we plan on creating something similar or resembling of a gatorade commercial but still keeping it original and selling the product. Just as a typical gatorade commercial we want to include a sports scene of some sort. Either a soccer team practicing for a game a basketball game or a track star. In the surrounding area we have a small team cheering on with the large gatorade jug typically full of water or electrolyte drink. This would be just to put the name out there not for actual use. This jug would also be accompanied by the small gatorade paper cups. Next to that would be pictured a large cooler full of ice and a variety of bottles of gatorade. A team of players or a runner would run up after a big win or exhausting training session, deeply reach into the cooler and pull out a perfectly nice and cold bottle of gatorade. The person would take a nice sip, feel refreshed, and continue on with the training from their satisfying gatorade. The commercial would include voiceovers upbeat audio and effective camera angles all used to portray the message. We also have other idea yet this is our main one yet is still subject to change.

We feel as thought this commercial would be very effective in explaining to the reader very explicitly what our intention as are and why we are trying to sell. We don’t want to make an intensely emotional connection with the reader but still want to entice them and make them emphasize with us feeling as thought they’ve been in that same prostitution before. The idea is to relate with the audience while also making them want to buy the products. We want to portray this through the use of the acting in the comercial the exhaustion and the feeling is not wanting to be there but pushing through and getting it done with the help of gatorade. As well as making the gatorade look appealing itself with the dripping water and the mouth going on the bottle hearing it flowing down the theorist of the athlete and the sound of refreshment. Almost that of what you hear in a soda commercial. The use of sound camera angles and acting will be very important in this comercial just like any other and aspiring to sell the product while creating a very convincing and appealing commercial.
